Kyrenia region protected.
The official gazette has published the '2007 Second Comprehensive Regulations for the Kyrenia Region' covering the area bordered by Karsiyaka, Lapta, Alsancak, Malatya, Incesu, Yes-iltepe, Karaoglanoglu, Edremit, Karaman, Zeytinlik, Kyrenia, Dogankoy, Karakum, Ozankoy, Bellapais, Gatalkoy, Arapkoy, Besparmak and Karaagac. The regulations were published on January 30, 2007 and became effective from January 31, 2007.
The purpose of the new regulations is stated as follows in the 4th article:
Until a new plan related to the Building Code is prepared these regulations will protect the Kyrenia Second Region (and its forest areas; olive trees, agricultural areas, coast line,
The Turkish Cyprfot Minister of Environment .Natural resources, historical and cultural enrichments for public benefit) against the threat of the rapid spread of dense and uncontrolled construction both for tourism and dwelling: purposes by:
(1) Providing protection for the ecological balance, the rich natural resources and both the historical) and the cultural heritage.
(2) Preventing the loss of green areas, the flora, thetseenery and the artistic values.
(3) Providing a coordinated development by controlling the proposed tourism and dwelling constructions.
(4) Insisting that the construction, tonrisnrand agricultural activities will be done according to the public benefit in a way that protects the historical and cultural resources of the region, complementing and supporting each other, creating opportunities for the economic and social development for the local public.
(5) Providing the creation and development of healthy, active, fair, beautiful, economic, safe, identified living areas which could protect their traditional identities, local scales and specialties.
(6) Determining; the rules and conditions, limitations and purposes of further development within the framework of a general development plan, providing a rationalist distribution of incomes in the 2007 Kyrenia (North Cyprus) and region comprehensive regulations.
