Property Construction Controlling Every Step in North Cyprus

The Ministry of Development and Transportation is the Ministry in charge of regulations, protocols and laws that have been enacted in relation to the construction industry in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Mr. Salih Usar, Minister of Development and Transportation said.."Our Ministry also plays their part in the classification and problem solving of the contractors active in the sector through the 'Construction Council' of the Ministry, The construction sector saw a major surge in developments due to the fact that our citizens wanted to invest their savings in houses allied to the increasing interest from the entire world towards the Turkish Cypriot community which triggered an increase in tourism, causing hotel owners to want to increase their bed capacity, and construction companies building houses for foreign investors. These were all a part of the fact that Cyprus is a heavenly island with its beautiful sea, sandy shores, mild climate and natural beauties where everyone would want to live.

Foreigners are able to buy both houses and land in Northern Cyprus through the related Cabinet Regulation. The Cyprus Turkish Ministry of internal Affairs provides the necessary assistance for foreigners planning to buy property in Northern Cyprus. The construction sector in Northern Cyprus is controlled through inspections and defined standards such as;
The areas open and closed to construction have been defined by the regulations and development plan. No one can just start a construction where they want. During the period from 2000 to 2005 there have been 10,964 projects presented, most of which were put into operation in 2004-05, Inspections of these projects have been made by the 'certification offices' of the Cyprus constructions have to meet the standards laid down by the Turkish Institute of Standard (TSE) and ail have the necessary documentation so that any product without TSE documents is not allowed into the country, Construction inspections are carried out by the architect in charge of the construction as well as the officers of the local districts (Municipalities and District Authorities), Therefore the constructions are being kept to a standard.

In order to maintain the continuity of the development in the construction sector The Ministry of Development and Transportation has announced tender offers in order build the infrastructure such as roads that are necessary for transportation as well as a second tender being announced such crucial modern day needs such as the 'ADSL' (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) which enables data transfer through the telephone service; Internet and fax all at the same time. Ail preparations for 'Broadband Wireless Access' systems have been completed and both issues have been opened to accept tender offers. For projects involving resorts and housing complexes over a certain size we demand that they present Environmental Effect Evaluation (EEE) report therefore we could be informed of their sensitivity towards protecting the environment. According to the Constitution of the TRNC property ownership by individuals is guaranteed by the government.
