Kaplica Village North Cyprus

Davlos is the old name of Kaplica (North Cyprus) village as it appears in the old maps. The village is worthy of its name because of the springs that surface in the mountains and pour into the blue Mediterranean. North Cyprus Kaplica literally means 'hot spring' in Turkish. During our trip to the village we did not come across any hot springs, however, we can definitely admit that the lush greenery surrounding the village is a result of several springs in the mountains pouring through the Kyrenia village of Kaplica North Cyprus.

North Cyprus Kaplica is a unique village in North Cyprus, it is both a seaside village and a mountain village. It is almost like villages in the Black Sea region of Turkey, with its greenery. It is perhaps due to the settlers from Turkey Trabzon choosing to settle here because it reminded them of their home towns. When we asked the villagers where they are from, they humbly answer saying that they are Cypriots for 30 years now. These people are very hospitable, merry and often shy but not reluctant in answering our curious questions. They are shy about being photographed, but the ones whose photographs we have managed to capture said they wished that it would have been a better photo!

Their clothing also resembles the areas where they originate from. We can clearly state this because of the way that the ladies prefer to tie their scarves. For elderly men, skullcaps are a common accessory and it is rather popular among the villagers. On the other hand, the younger generation has adapted the island's fashion to its details. We can easily say that all generations adapted to the island's lifestyles quite well. The village, due to narrow roads and distance to major cities, has remained in its natural state. North Cyprus Kaplica, extending from the seaside to the skirts of the mountain, accommodates old and new houses side by side. However, what is more important is the fact that no matter what type of house one lives in, the moment one steps out, he/she will be surrounded by lush greenery - natural and unspoilt beauty. Emine, an elderly lady in the village with a huge smile on her face, asks us to visit her again in the summer because her garden will be filled with flowers and she claims that there is not a more beautiful bougainvillea elsewhere. The villagers survive on their own produce - farming and stockbreeding - and have not got any other income. Stockbreeding is a very taxing profession and requires a lot of patience and care. While wondering about the village, even though it is a common sight in villages in Turkey, we can hardly see any men sitting and sipping coffee at the coffee houses. The ladies tell us that men are all up in the mountains, taking care of their herds. We have also witnessed women collecting greenery for their herds, which they really take care of as if they are their children. The village, as mentioned before, is both a seaside and a mountain village. Apart from the agricultural activities, the village has a small fisherman shelter. The fish the villagers catch are often bought by the hotels and restaurants around the region. This side of business has developed recently, as tourism showed signs of development in the recent years.

The village will soon be announced as a "Nature Walking and Trekking" route by the Ministry of Environment and encouraging people to spend their leisure time at North Cyprus Kaplica, enjoying the beauties of nature. North Cyprus Kaplica is almost like a gift of God to the Cypriots. Its location is impeccable with its back resting at the skirts of the mountain range and facing the beautifully blue Mediterranean sea. It is definitely worth visiting - either for a breath of fresh air and a hike in the mountains, or to dine at one of the few charming fish restaurants near the marina.
