Kyrenia Harbour North Cyprus: One of the most important places that you must see is Girne (Kyrenia) Harbour and Castle North Cyprus, a superb structure welcoming you at the edge of the Old Harbour. It is assumed that Girne Castle was built to protect the city from pirates around the 7th Century AD. Lusignans and Venetians added some units to the castle that was originally built by the Byzantines.
Kyrenia Shipwreck Museum North Cyprus: The sunken ship exhibited in Girne Castle is the oldest found so far. The sunken ship belongs to the period when the fleets of the Hellenistic Kingdom, established after the death of Alexander the Great, sailed the Mediterranean Sea. The ship was evidently caught in a storm and sank not far from the Girne-Kyrenia shore.
Bellapais Village North Cyprus: This is a glorious village located in the foothills of the Besparmak Mountain range, around 4 to 5 km east of Girne. The village offers a stunning panorama and was named as "the place of peace" in Latin. You will see a wonderful monastery when you go to Beylerbeyi Kyrenia North Cyprus. It has been constructed high on a rock and takes its name from the ,,Abbaye de la Paix" in French, meaning "the Monastery of Peace".
St. Hilarion Castle North Cyprus: The castle is the best place from which to view Girne. From 850 metres above sea level you have a bird's eye view. Here, in pure, natural surroundings, you taste freedom in the sweet breeze. St. Hilarion Castle was built as a church by the Byzantines and later turned into a castle during the Lusignan period in the 10th Century.
Buffavento Castle North Cyprus: Buffavento Castle is another castle like St. Hilarion, built on a windy hilltop to protect the island against Arab attacks. The name means "not afraid of the wind." Although the exact date of construction is not known, it was probably built when Richard the Lionheart conquered Cyprus. The princess noted the improved health of her dog, and found it had been drinking from a spring beneath the castle.
Kaplica Village North Cyprus: Whichever direction you approach the village, you can be assured that the glittering Mediterranean on one side and the mountain range on the other side will be accompanying you. You will see Kantara Castle (North Cyprus) dominating the mountains over you. And along the way, you will see typical Mediterranean flora and fauna and true Cypriot heritage olive and carob trees in Kyrenia North Cyprus.
Karmi Village North Cyprus: Overlooked by the majestic Gothic style Crusader Castle of St. Hilarion in North Cyprus and nestling deep in the mountainside is the picturesque village of Karaman, (or Karmi in the Greek) in Kyrenia North Cyprus, which is inhabited mostly by British and German expatriates.
